EOTC WEEK 2011

EOTC week has been and gone! This year we went on 4 consecutive trips to exciting destinations around Auckland. The aim for each trip was to build relationships, overcome fears and build inner strength and confidence. Our first trip was to the Orakei Marae where we learnt all about the Maori culture. The boys learnt a traditional haka and the girls learnt a poi dance. Our next trip was to Tree Adventure at Woodhill Forest. This was a big day and for many of us a new experience where we were able to try four high ropes confidence courses. On day 3 we went down to Waiatarua Reserve and did a full day of orienteering and cooperative games! This was fun and a good team building activity - the challenge was finding the few markers which weren't actually there (talk about a wild goose chase). Our last day of EOTC was at the Wave Pools where we had a day of fun and slippin' sliding with our peers and new friends.

Check out the photos below to see all the action from EOTC week and go to our individual pages to read and comment on our EOTC reflective diary entries...

ORAKEI MARAE
Miss Bryant's Highlight: Seeing the Year 5 children performing their poi dance and haka in the wharenui and also seeing students overcome their fears and participate in the hongi when we were formally greeted onto the marae.

TREE ADVENTURES
Miss Bryant's Highlight: Definitely completing course 3 which was my goal going into the day. Last time I went to Tree Adventures the crosses on course 3 absolutely got the better of me and I was almost crying! This time I not only did course 3 but I helped Luke get through the obstacles which were too tall for him also.
Miss Bryant's Lowlight: Having to wear a harness all day...not comfortable or attractive!

ORIENTEERING
Miss Bryant's Highlight: Go Home Stay Home - children vs adults! We cleaned up!!! And also seeing you all complete the maps and coming back fully exhausted!
Miss Bryant's Lowlight: 7am starts on both days to set out the markers. Evangeline breaking her arm...first injury during EOTC week!

WAVE POOLS
Miss Bryant's Highlight: Seeing happy children going down the slide all day and taking some pretty cool photographs from the top of the hydroslide. Being at a venue where we could buy coffee was also a bonus!
